“Ten Questions To Ask About A Potential Horse Purchase”
1) Ask lots of relevant questions to seller
2) Observe her in her paddock and stable before you buy her
3) Is she well cared for there?
– Tying up at tack point?
4) Is she settled there?
– (Good doer/fussy)
5) Talk to her farrier and vet
– Open questions
6) What is she like in an unfamiliar work place?
7) Take note of any hoof ridges (change/stress)
8) Look in the paddock where she is kept
– Has she paced fence lines. Calm hoof prints mostly?
-Plenty of hay
9) Do you like the way her rider trains other horses. Calm?
10) Ride out with another horse
– Does the horses demeanor change when he is ridden
Calm group lessons are the objective!
Practice at walk first, head on, side on and rear on approach patterns, to diminish field shy tendencies.
Our horse is going on as planned, reliable, predictable and is becoming quieter as a consequence of our evidence based training.
