1) The engine room of jumping are these Three basics things Position, Rhythm/Tempo and Line.
2) Learning distances & laying out exercises. Lesson prep and connecting exercises from warm up to substance especially early in your exposure to coaching jumping – Build your tool box of exercises in walk, trot and canter.
3) Variables – slope, surface, group size, weather, time of year, etc
4) Comfort zones yours and theirs. Trust – exercises in walk – trot – canter. As individuals and as a group. Commitment points
5) Stopping a group and lowering an exercise. Nothing is set in stone. Be comfortable taking a step back.
Sometimes jumping coaching feels like your standing in front of an oven with the door open and the knob is stuck on 280°. Understand what expectations your looking for from an exercise – keeping it simple. (Back to the engine room)
6) Nervous riders and horses. Learn to be in their space and for them to come into the present space. Trust in the now. Which ever way that leads, in other words have a plan and learn to be flexible.
7) Not your ambitions or goals. Are you projecting your ambitions or helping theirs.
8) Sphere of influence. Communication when and how. Jumping is often done in open larger spaces. Getting used to that environment .
9) Embrace fear, challenges and uncertainty. Good training makes everything easier however sometimes we need to understand what is workable for the situation.
10) Have fun stay safe.
