Acceptance – mental, trust and partnership
Calmness – Horse Mental Relaxation
Forwardness – horse taking you something
Straightness – bike
Purity – fast falls

Variables:
Direction – where
Speed – how fast
Impulsion – available energy
Balance – distribution of weight
Timing – transition and correct release of pressure

“Ten Ways To Develop Control of Speed Over Fences”

 

1. Unbalanced horses rush (particularly disunited ones!)

 

2. Horses need to move evenly forward into each rein

 

3. Quality transitions smoothly trained trot to halt, canter halt, walk to canter and trot to canter

 

4. Rider problems – Over riding (pushing)

 

5. Rider problems – Over holding

 

6. Training the waiting stride

 

7. Quality hind leg action (even on each rein) with pushing and carrying power
