“Ten Ways To Get The Most Out Of A Training Session”

 

1. Remember you are coaching the horse!
– You cannot force the horse to learn

 

2. Have a good frame of reference to evaluate your training and to measure improvement
– Give rider a method to achieve personal best regularly

 

3. Do your homework.
– Cross Country – pop over ditches

 

4. Get a good coach who can see the big picture.
– Are you at the end of the road?

 

5. Do regular SWOT and SMART analysis
– Monthly SWOT – my riding, my horse, strengths
– Specifics, Measurables, Achievable, Realistic, Time bound (SMART)

 

6. Make a plan to increase a skill each day. But don’t be a slave to the plan.

 

 

7. Remember who is responsible for what!
– Look and plan, speed, direction, position, balance, rider
– Supervisor, overseer, team manager
– Everything else – jumping, cruise control

 

8. Use equipment to help you evaluate your progress

 

 

9. Variety will develop your specific discipline
– Mental well being of the horse -ethical

 

10. Give yourself stars and a wish after every session and write them down!
