Trail Riding Adventures: From Assistant to Trail Ride Boss
If you love Trail Riding then this pathway in our Horse Industry Careers Series could be the one for you!
You should be confident enough to walk, trot and canter up and down hills, go through creeks and unknown areas and popover a log or two before you start.
You could start off your career as a Trail Rider Assistant and progress through to be a Trail Ride Boss!
When you first start as a Trail Ride Assistant, there may be more to the job than trail riding, although that is the main part of the job. You could be doing some feeding and general care of the trail horses…. as well as care before and after the ride, and preparation of the horses for the ride. You could meet the customers as they arrive, helping them to fit their helmets and checking that they have suitable clothes to ride in.
Riders are usually assessed in an arena to make sure they can turn, guide and stop before they go on the trail.
When you first start working in a Trail Rider Centre, you will probably assist the leader. Once you know the trails and the safety requirements and you have gained your trail ride leader qualifications, you could start with small groups before going out on trails with larger groups.
If you love trail riding, this is an excellent way to have a career with horses!
You get the best of both worlds, trail riding and being paid while you are at it!
