Why Not Have Rising Trot in Dressage Tests if Horse Welfare is Our Highest Priority with Christoph Hess
- Developing the trot, working towards the collected and extended trot?
– Freedom in the shoulder allows the horse to cover the ground
– Potential to swing – can develop a trot
- How does a shortened trot in earlier tests differ from a working trot?
– Clear two beat rhythm, suppleness and relaxation
– Shortening should focus on the impulsion
- How does a lengthened trot in the earlier tests differ from a working trot?
– A level – beginning level
– If asking too much not good
– Should be a longer movement of suspension
- Which trot should be commence with first? Shortening or lengthening?
– Impulsion is first
- What is the judge looking for in the collected trot?
– Judge looks for scale of training
– Trot should come from suppleness and not tension
- What is the judge looking for in the extended trot?
– Active mouth – do we have a happy horse
– A mirror a good way of riding or bad way of riding
- What can we do if our horse’s walk and canter scores better than the trot?
– 3 and 4 year old riders can change the trot
- What can we do if our horse is not comfortable to sit the trot?
– Is the rider good enough to ride the trot
– Balance, suppleness and swinging in the pelvis
– Horses that don’t have good elasticity may be difficult to sit to the trot
– The horses mouth is as good or bad as the riders hands
– There should be a clear connection between the horses mouth through the reins to the riders hands
– The active quiet mouth is a very important part of the horses body language
