“Ten Ways To Buy And Sell Horses, Keeping All Parties Happy (Buyer, Seller and Horse)”

1.Buyer –  Most important features of their dream horse:
– Height, colour, sex, breed?
– Budget
– Age
– Competition history
– Training level
– Scope / potential
– Reliable / safety

2. Buyer – be sensible what you can afford and therefore what is essential and what you are flexible on. There aren’t 1000 unicorns running around…
3. Buyer – yes the market is to your advantage but you expect respect and honesty, treat the sellers with the same.
If you expect a discount – think what can you offer – embryo options, your reputation. What is a realistic discount, ie would you go into David Jones or Mercedes and ask for a 40% reduction
4. Buyer – . What can the seller tell you about their horse?
– Why is it for sale?
– If they are a breeder what success has their other horses had, reputation / recommendation?
– Does it have a FB / Instagram history? Eg mine can be followed from the day they were born
5. Buyer – most are not available for trial but I offer the opportunity to come and have as many lessons on the horse as you like
6. Buyer – if you are serious put a deposit down, it can have conditions but then you can’t be pipped at the post.
7. Seller – why are your horses the ones to buy?
– reputation
– trainability / rideability
– performance / competition career
– pedigree
– ability
– reliability
8. Why buy local when I can buy cheaper from overseas?
– reputation
– less cost / risk – travelling to see the horse,  transport, quarantine
– local vet check
9. Seller – number 1 for me @ Tennyson Stud is making the right match. If you are a happy customer then you will get the most out of your partnership and everyone will see that and that in itself is a recommendation. Horses for courses, what suits 1 person will not necessarily suit someone else
10. After sales service – I love hearing and seeing my horses. Am ALWAYS happy to help and support in any way I can
11. Sensible for both parties to have a contract
