Ten Ways to Improve Your Riding: A Biomechanical Approach

1. Balanced position at the halt.   Everything in alignment

2. Absorbing movement in the walk.    Move in time, synchronize with leg aids

3. Correcting faults in the walk.     Too much activity – pushing seat plus nagging legs, there should be subtle differences

4. Absorbing movement in the sitting trot.      Riding correctly, dependent on the way the horse is going

5. Correcting faults in sitting trot.    Riders nodding their head

6. Absorbing movement in the rising trot.     Head and shoulders glide along with the horse

7. Correcting faults in the rising trot.      Sitting heavy into the back of the saddle – up with the rise – double bounce – rising too high

8. Absorbing movement in the canter.    Circular movement

9. Correcting faults in the canter.  Polishing saddle – popping out of the saddle

10. Putting it into practice – How to set yourself up for success.
