1) Adequate forage intake
– 1% to 1.5% of body weight per day
2) Feed to meet workload
– More energy, more able to concentrate
3) Body condition scoring
– Body fat of horses
4) Feed by weight not volume
5) Keep meal sizes small
– 12-18 hours per day
– Half kilo per 100kg body weight
6) Make feed changes slowly
