“Ten Ways To Ensure Positive Training Sessions For Both Horse & Human”

1.Have an end result that you’re working towards/know where you’re heading.
– Long term, training session.

2.But understand that you might not get there instantly. Praise attempts and shape the behaviour.
– Short term, micro goals, shape, behaviour,

3.If things aren’t going as planned, go back to basics.
– Humility

4.Never reprimand or punish, instead calmly ask again or correct.
– Not a reasoning animal
– Cognitive ability

5.Be aware of your own emotions/head space. Emotions have very little place in training. And have a back up in mind if you yourself are not in a good place to be riding your horse.
– Neutral head space, groundwork, lunging, hack

6.Know your horse. Observe him and be aware of any soreness, injuries, environmental conditions that might impact your training.

7.Variation is so important. Keep changing up your training sessions.

8.Be brave enough to experiment. Or if unsure, humble enough to ask for help.
– Clicker Training, liberty

9.Know when to stop and always end on a good note.

10. Perfect practice makes perfect. Try to keep training session on the short side, with lots of breaks in between.
