What is the Piaffe Dressage Movement?
Piaffe is a highly collected, cadenced, elevated diagonal movement giving the impression of remaining in place.  The horse’s back is supple and elastic.  The hindquarters are lowered; the haunches the active hocks are well engaged, giving great freedom, lightness and mobility to the shoulders and forehand.
What is the history of the piaffe?
The piaffe was originally used in battle to keep the horse focused, warm and moving, ready to move forward into battle.  In modern times, piaffe is mostly taught as an upper level movement in Classical Dressage and as a Grand Prix level movement.
Little know fact
Piaffe was developed on ships as preparation for war.
