“Ten Points for Improving Competition Results”

 

1) Learn to breathe….diaphragmatic breathing to help overcome competition nerves

2) Make a plan or goal to achieve at your competition

3) Fitness
– Make sure you and your horse are fit enough to compete

4) Find a good coach and stick with them.
– Don’t coach hop as you’ll end up becoming confused

5) Saddlery
– It must fit, be safe and conform to the discipline you’re competing in

6) Helmets are a must and need to comply with the Australian standards and also be appropriate for your discipline

7) Your riding attire
– Must also conform to the discipline you’re competing in.
– You will need to check the rules of your discipline or ask your coach

8) Entries
– Need to be in on time and get help if you don’t know which classes to enter

9) Program/draw
– Know what time the competition starts and/or what order you’re on in the draw, so that you allow sufficient warm-up for you and your horse

10) The Competition
– You’re On! Remember to breathe and enjoy the ride.
– Learn from any mistakes and good luck
