“Ten Points For Effective Communication When Riding”

1) Develop a quiet seat – movement must have meaning

2) Use hands like pushing a shopping cart; don’t pull, don’t drop the reins

3) Line your hips where you want the horse’s hips to be

4) Line your shoulder where you want the horse’s shoulder to be

5) Use your voice (yes, really) and say your horse’s name often

6) Listen to your horse and trust what you hear

7) Ride your horse from the “engine” (haunches) forward

8) Stay flexible; rigid begets rigid

9) With issues, go back, do something simpler, use milder tack

10) End on a good note
