1 – Competing helps to provide motivation for training.
2 – It tests the correct response to aids in a strange environment.
3 – It tests the effectiveness of half halts – performing movements precisely at a marker.
4 – It tests steering – knowing and following an exact line.
5 – It encourages fellowship, a sense of community.
6 – It develops sportsmanship.
7 – It enables riders to contribute to the growth of their sport through being involved with conducting the event.
8 – It opens up other educational pathways to riders e.g. writing, judging, stewarding, scoring, coaching.
9 – It grows the base of the support so the top of the pyramid is improved.
