Happy Horses is the Goal
About Paul
– Paul started riding at the age of 7 at the Eastminster School of Riding in Hornchurch, going through all of the childrens and adult classes riding a wide variety of ponies and horses. Back in those days breaking in a horse was all part of the lesson, so he soon learnt how to develop a seat and how to stay on. Paul was later the Chairman of Hooks Hall Equestrian Club, which was the adult riding club based there.
Paul started his teaching career at Eastminster, before going on to teach at Aldborough Hall Equestrian Centre, Mudchute Equestrian Centre and also at Lee Valley Riding Centre (where he was trained by Patrick Print, the BHS Chairman), and eventually moving on to become an NVQ Assesor for Writtle College.
Paul spent 3 years training at Paul Haylers (an international dressage rider and trainer) in Writtle. his duties included feeding, mucking out, grooming, washing down, lungeing and riding. Part of his time there was spent as the yard manager. He was under Paul’s excellent leadership and learnt a lot, as well as how to work efficiently to an extremely high standard. He also helped Paul at demo’s, getting the horses ready and making events run smoothly.
After working with Paul Haylers in Writtle, Paul then moved to Simone Wards in Upminster who is also an international dressage rider and trainer.
Paul was very lucky to be working at Simone’s as it gave him the opportunity to ride her own competition horses whilst warming them up, or while schooling them myself under her very experienced and watchful eye. Paul had lessons 4 times a week while with Simone, and learnt so much, improving his understanding of how to work, school and improve a horse to a very high standard.
Paul would watch Simone ride, as well as helping her with the horses while she was training, which was a great way of learning. He also rode horses at Grand Prix level whilst there.
Paul then spent 5 years as stable manager for Steph and Rob Appleton at Clarendon House Equine. He looked after all their completion horses and helped out on the vet side caring for the horses operated on. In 2015 Paul decided to go freelance with teaching, riding and taking horses in for backing and schooling.
Paul trained with Anand Patel who is an International dressage rider. Paul is a BD, RDA, BRC and Freestyle judge.
