About Sheila
– Sheila breeds Connemara horses and doing research for HWSD
Hoof wall separation disease (HWSD) is a genetic hoof disease. The use of social media and ‘citizen science’ is integral in generating researcher interest in HWSD. Social media as utilized to promote an appeal for crowd-funding; this raised more than sufficient money to finance the first stage of research that culminated in the development of HWSD test. A continued, concerted social media campaign has generated international momentum resulting in increased understanding about HWSD among breeders and owners, and making of sensible policy decision by ruling bodies of the breed worldwide.
