“Ten Ways To Improve Your Horse Club Newsletter”
1 – Set a format that includes the first page with logo and banner to include contact information for directors, officers
2 – I used the theme for the month with little clip art
– For February it was all hearts and flowers, for July it was red, white and blue for Independence Day, etc.
– Clip art is fun and cheap filler
3 – Include the President’s address with a digital signature on page one.
4 – Set up regular columns that fit the organization
– These can include Membership information/renewals, Youth Group Activities, Calendar of Events, Columns for every activity (with Arabian Horses, I used Endurance, Show, Racing, etc)
5 – People love to see their name in print so use the names of as many members as you can in every paper and keep score yourself so you can see where you need to improve.
6 – Photos – beg, borrow, or steal photos of members doing what they do with their names clearly beneath the photo (back to Number 5).
7 – Fun Columns – I always included a recipe for Horse Cookies in every issue with a cute carton drawing of a horse that like he wanted the cookies.
8 – Brag Section – where people who won doing what they loved could get their picture and name in paper (Show Championships, Endurance Placings, Race Placings by owners, members, etc.
– Quotes
9 – Find interesting and related events in the area
– Farm tours with all contact information, School events related to your club purpose with all the contact information, etc
10 – Double check the spelling of everyone’s name
– They like to see their names in print, but they like it even better if you spell it right.
Get the newsletter to membership on the same day every month. They get used to seeing it in their mailbox. Many of them look forward to seeing it. Don’t disappoint them.
